Speed round circle
Angular speed, ω
The point goes round the circle at a steady speed. Its shadow on the
vertical axis does not move steadily: it is fastest through the middle
and momentarily still at the top and bottom.
That shadow is simple harmonic motion, and the graph it traces is a
sine curve. One trip round the circle is one complete oscillation, so
the period is the same for both.
The angle turned is θ = ωt, which is why ω appears in the SHM
equations even though nothing is going round in a circle.
